Representative Maxine Waters, a California Democrat, came out with a hot take on an appearance on MSNBC’s “All in with Chris Hayes,” in which she said that Fox News pundit Bill O’Reilly and U.S. President Donald Trump should be put in jail for sexual harassment. She pointed a finger at O’Reilly for being part of a “sexual harassment enterprise” at the Fox News network, and she highlighted the insensitive comments that Trump has made on women during his presidential campaign. In addition to accusing the President of being guilty of sexual assault, she also expressed doubt in his foreign negotiation skills, saying, “I wish our foreign affairs experts could get his ear and tell him to shut up and just stop it.”
Trump came to O’Reilly’s defense on Wednesday after a report came out that Fox News and O’Reilly have reached settlements on five sexual harassment claims. Trump told The New York Times that he believed O’Reilly didn’t do anything wrong. However, Trump himself has been under fire several times for his treatment of women. For example, the number of women who alleged that Trump had sexually harassed or assaulted them in some form reached double digits; Trump called them all liars. There was also the leaked tape from his appearance on “Access Hollywood”, when he was caught bragging to then-host Billy Bush about how his status as a star allowed him to do anything with women, such as “grab them by the pussy.”
Waters has been a vocal opponent of Trump’s from the beginning of his presidency. For example, she made an allegation that she had confirmed the existence of a dossier with evidence that Trump had been with Russian prostitutes; she later had to retract that claim. She has also called for Trump’s impeachment once investigations into potential Russian ties were made.
