A couple of days after the separation between New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony and actress La La Vasquez, more information has surfaced about the woman who was the impetus for the major split. Previously, we only knew that Anthony had an illicit relationship with a gentlemen’s club dancer, but we now know her name: Mia Angel Burks. It appears that a friend of Burks, Anthony Jacobs, informed the major gossip rags of the news. He later made an appearance on WGCI-FM in Chicago to explain more about Burks’ background.
According to the interview with Jacobs, Burks and Anthony met at a Chicago nightclub when Anthony was doing press for the NBA Draft, whose Combine was held there May 10-15 of last year. Jacobs rejects the report that Burks was a dancer at that club, but did say that she dated Anthony for several months after that meeting. Burks flew to New York City to be with Anthony multiple times during the undercover relationship, although Anthony says that her intent was not to interfere with Anthony’s marriage to Vasquez. Burks has also been linked to Ryan Henry, a tattoo artist profiled on VH1’s Black Ink Crew Chicago, although it’s unclear if they were together at the same time as the affair with Anthony.
When asked what Burks does if she is not a stripper, as initial reports claimed, Anthony stated that she is a director of special projects for ReGeneration Schools, a group of public schools in Chicago dedicated to providing access to college prep and university education for lower-income families. Burks specialized in event planning for the six schools that are members of the initiative. Burks has a Master’s degree in Health Communication from Northwestern University, from where she graduated in 2016. She also has a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Sciences in Biology and Public Health from St. Augustine’s University.
